The sci-fi fantasy, third-person shooter Warframe initially launched in 2013, a year before Bungie’s Destiny 1. Even so, I was skeptical about its "free-to-play" status. But my gaming buddies had previously DL’d and played Warframe, and encouraged me to at least investigate the product … after all, it was a free download (and 2.5 times smaller than Destiny).
That said, the main reason for considering another multi-player, cross-platform fantasy shooter is due directly to the “drawing down” of our long-time cultural gaming icon … Destiny 2, which seems to be quickly fading into gaming history!
Long story short, I DL’d and installed Warframe for the PlayStation 5. Set-up went smoothly. I was immediately impressed by the extensive parameters presented on the support side (i.e. audio, video, controller settings, etc.), and for player particulars (everything from "soup to nuts," including colour blindness palettes, etc.). Roughly speaking, I’d suggest that Warframe has about 500% more set-up options over that of Destiny 2.
Most impressive of all, though, was the video granularity. In terms of resolution, it equals or surpasses any of the multi-player video games that I’ve indulged in. Warframe was ported for the PS5 in late 2020. That and the fact that I’m also upscaling the video with a 4K unit, made this game a worthy contender for the multi-player, cross-play option we’ve been looking for.
Kudos to my buds for insisting that Warframe is worth a run (they were right) … and also to the Canadian developer Digital Extremes, HQ’d in London, Ontario, for creating a product that easily impresses right out of the “box!”
