Hunting for dead ghosts

A favourite activity in Destiny 1 was collecting dead ghosts and various other hidden gems. Occasionally Bungie made it downright diabolical to make gains in your collection progress. With Destiny 2: Forsaken, there are 23 hidden dead ghosts to be found (that we know of), spread across various locations in the solar system. Click on the name of each dead ghost to view detailed instructions on how to locate it, courtesy of IGN. Each dead ghost counts as a lore book entry.

We recommend you read the guides for each ghost before completing the campaign, as some are only available during story missions. Most of the dead ghosts not located in the Tangled Shore are found in Lost Sectors, so make sure you're properly equipped to take on those skirmishes before continuing with your dead ghost hunting quest.

If we find associate data that reveals more information, we will insert an UPDATE tag, followed by additional data.

The Tangled Shore (8)

1. The Chosen's Choice — This dead ghost can only be found inside The Machinist mission. You can wait for it to be available as a daily heroic mission if you've already completed it. In the final area before the boss fight, you'll find the dead ghost sitting atop a crane.

2. Pressure — This dead ghost can be found in the very first story mission of Destiny 2: Forsaken, after you first touch down in the Tangled Shore. On your way to the first door, there is a room underground on the left. Inside, you will see the glowing dead ghost.

3. Ghosthunter — This dead ghost can be found near the beginning of the Shipyard AWO-43 Lost Sector, in the Jetsam of Saturn region of the Tangled Shore.

4. The We Before Us — This dead ghost is located deep inside the Hall of the Exalted, inside the Hive Tomb ship in the Jetsam of Saturn region. You'll have to make your way past two large rooms filled with praying Hive. UPDATE — When you reach the barred window overlooking the 2nd hall of worshiping Hive, you don't have to run down into that room. Instead, venture into the "cavity" at the left side of this window. Climb onto the rubble to find the dead ghost.

5. To Map the Unknown — This dead ghost is very easily located as it's in the room where the Spider hangs out. Just check on a crate on the left-hand side of the room, opposite of Petra Venj's usual spot.

6. Whether Windmills or Cranes — This dead ghost is found to the right of the cliff, at the very end of the Kingship Dock Lost Sector. Check on a small piece of the docking machinery to locate it.

7. Who Guards the Guardians? — This dead ghost is located in the Wolfship Turbine Lost Sector, in the room with the treasure chest. Listen to the sound it makes. It's tucked into a corner.

8. Batteries not Included — This dead ghost is found on a small, floating rock in The Cobble. Don't be afraid to jump down onto it; it's on the far side, so it's not visible from up above.

EDZ  (3)

1. Compliments — This dead ghost can be found inside The Drain Lost Sector, in the Outskirts region. Head all the way to the room with the boss, but instead of going to the left room with the chest, head into the back right corner, and up some stairs into the room where you'll find the ghost. UPDATE — Before entering the room with the loot chest (at left), use the exit at the right side, go down some stairs and then up more stairs, to find a room 'at the back' of this structure, and a ghost.

2. No Rez for the Weary — This dead ghost is located inside The Quarry Lost Sector, in the Sunken Isles. Keep heading to the right until you crawl through a narrow opening, and see the dead ghost next to a lamp.

3. Don't Call Me Ghost — This dead ghost is found inside the Shaft 13 Lost Sector, in the Sludge region. Near the first area with enemies, jump up onto a rusty, angled catwalk, and push your way past a few barrels. In the right corner you'll see a locker door that's ajar. The ghost is inside.

Io (3)

1. Difference of Opinion — This dead ghost can be found in the Sanctum of Bones Lost Sector, in the Rupture region. When you find the large outcropping in the center of a large room, climb up to nearly the top to find this ghost.

2. Protector of Ghosts — You'll find this dead ghost in the entrance tunnel to Terrabase Charron, sitting atop a suspended grate holding several boxes.

3. Ghost Community Theater Presents — This dead ghost is located inside the Aphix Conduit Lost Sector, in the Rupture region. Near the end, find three pillars facing the lost sector chest, and jump on the tallest one. You will see the ghost from there.

Nessus (3)

1. A Hero's Requiem — This dead ghost is located inside The Rift Lost Sector, near the Exodus Black. You'll find the ghost near the loot chest by jumping on a tall pillar. UPDATE — After mopping up the Fallen and looting the chest in this Lost Sector, stay on this side of the chasm and jog to the end. Instead of jumping over to the exit, climb the pillar here (it's obviously meant to be climbed). While standing on top of the pillar, turn and face the nearest wall. You will see the dead ghost on a small ledge, which you can jump over to.

2. Struck by Wonder — This dead ghost is located in the Watcher's Grave region. You'll have to do some climbing on the wall to get on top of the old Vex gate to find this ghost. UPDATE — Use the multiple pillars adjacent to the Vex gate until you're able to find yourself inside the large gate ring (directly below the "eye"). The dead ghost is on the left side (if you're facing the gate's eye). It's best to take a run up the curved stone, and then double-tap X to jump to the nearest stable ledge. Climb up to a couple more ledges (carefully), and find the dead ghost about half-way up, on a ledge at the gate's front side.

3. Confession of Hope | Part Two — This is one of the easier dead ghosts to find, as it's just near the bottom of a large tree in The Tangle. UPDATE — To find this dead ghost, fast travel to the Artifact’s Edge spawn point. Use the elevator portal to cushion your fall, jump on your sparrow and follow the road to the left until you reach The Tangle. Keep to the left wall until the road starts to narrow. There is a jutting ledge that you will jump up to. Once on the ledge, turn left to see a big, red-leafed tree. Jump into the tree to find the dead ghost on a platform hidden by the tree’s branches.

Titan (3)

1. Into the Fray — This dead ghost can be found inside the DS Quarters-2 Lost Sector. It's located in the room with the chest, in the back left corner, on top of a shelf.

2. Confession of Hope | Part One — This dead ghost is found in the early stages of the Savanthun Strike, but can be accessed from simply patrolling Titan. Keep following the usual path, but look on the left, near the bottom of a door that's ajar.

3. The Watchful Eye — This dead ghost is located inside one of the rooms frequently guarded by a Hive Knight or Fallen Servitor.

Mercury (1)

From Fallen Ground — If you're exploring the Pariah's Refuge Lost Sector, perhaps while attempting the Wanted: Subterranean Mind bounty, you can find this dead ghost on top of the bookshelf, in the room with the chest.

Mars (2)

1. Savin — To find this dead ghost, you're going to head into the Core Terminus Lost Sector in Hellas Basin. You will find it just behind the loot chest at the very end of the lost sector.

2. Pulled Pork — This dead ghost is found in the third room where you have to destroy a javelin core during the strike. It's sitting behind the pillar where you destroy the javelin core.
