D2: The Mysterious Box Locks

MYSTERIOUS BOX Quest Step

Description — An ornate box with four locks. Each lock has a different symbol emblazoned on it: a hand, a butterfly, a fishhook, and a Black Armory insignia.

☐ Fishhook lock opened
☐ Butterfly lock opened
☐ Hand lock opened
☐ Black Armory lock opened

Fishhook lock: Drone 1 location
FISHHOOK lock

The Fishhook lock key is obtained in the Volundr Forge (EDZ). Once you've finished the first wave of enemies and charged the forge using the 20 batteries dropped by the glowing blue meanies, you will get another enemy wave with the same instruction (i.e. rinse and repeat). Moments after the second wave of enemies appear, two shield drones will spawn on different sides of the arena. One of the drones will be out front where the cave opens up towards the forest, above the island with the fir trees. The other drone will be in the deepest part of the cave, at the back.

Fishhook lock: Drone 2 location
The drones will just hover in place, not attacking or taking part in the forge event in any way. You will need to destroy both drones before the second enemy wave activity is over. Doing so will grant you a buff call Maximum Temper. This is a tough assignment, especially if you're playing with random Guardians, as you will likely want to focus on the battery-spewing enemies and, you know, generally try to stay alive ... but dispatching those two drones is required. Once you're successful with the forge, a Black Armory crate will appear. Loot it and you will get the key for the Fishhook lock.

Butterfly lock: Drone 1 location
BUTTERFLY lock

The Butterfly lock key is obtained in the Izanami Forge (Nessus). Essentially the process is similar to that of the Volundr Forge, in that you must clear the first wave of enemies. In the lull between the first and second enemy waves, two shield drones will appear in specific places around the arena.

Butterfly lock: Drone 2 location
Simply destroy the drones before the second activity wave completes, and you will get a buff called ... Maximum Temper. Subsequently defeat the boss dude, go to the arena centre and collect your Butterfly lock key from the Black Armory crate.

Hand lock: Drone 1 location
HAND lock

As in the previous forge engagements, acquiring the Hand lock key is a familiar process. This key is obtained in the Gofannon Forge (Nessus). Once again, fight through the first wave of enemies. In the lull between waves, two shield drones will appear. The first will spawn on top of the massive wreckage of fuselage that dominates the forge arena. The second drone will appear in front of a yellow section of wall to the left of that same fuselage.

Hand lock: Drone 2 location
Take down the drones as quickly as possible, before the second enemy wave begins in earnest. You will get the Maximum Temper buff, which is your indicator that you did it right! Finish the forge activity successfully and your reward is a Black Armory crate containing the Hand lock key.

The Bergusia Forge picnic zone
BLACK ARMORY lock

The Black Armory lock key is obtained in the Bergusia Forge (EDZ). Yes ... rinse and repeat ... again. In the lull between the two waves of enemies, two shield drones will spawn near the centre of the arena. They're very easy to spot, as they're just flying around two pillars. Kill them! Gain Maximum Temper. Following successful completion of this forge, you can loot your key from the Black Armory crate.

But wait ... There's still more to go, as this key quest line is now launched into a full-blown exotic quest!

First you will need to acquire an Obsidian Crystal, obtained from a rare Ada-1 bounty. Rare Ada-1 bounties appear from completing daily or weekly bounties for her. The bounty will request that you do a variety of tasks, from elemental kills to 5-25 forge-clears, to a laundry list of strikes, adventures, patrols and PvP matches.

Next you will need an Ascendant Glass Shard, which comes from clearing the Shattered Throne dungeon in the confluence of the Dreaming City. This dungeon only appears every third week! Run this dungeon with your Guardian friends, as it's a bit tough.

After that, you'll be asked to engage in a super version of the Pyramidion strike (with Solar singe, heavyweight and extinguish). Remember that 'extinguish' means that if all team members die, the whole team is catapulted to orbit. Yeah. I know how appealing that is.

Then it's back to the Bergusia Forge to fight the fallen troll Siviks. (Is he Spider's estranged brother?) Okay, once you dispatch that ugly, head back to Ada-1 and discover what she has to say about this whole affair.

Note — If you wanted Izanagi's Burden exotic sniper rifle, then you will need to grind the pre-Bergusia Forge process. Check out the fun commentary at apocclan.com for that quest filler.
